I have been a freelancer/contractor in the events industry for 2 years now and I would like to share a few findings and tips.


There's always the same concern - what if I don't find a client? Well, I look at all those giant tech companies laying people off left and right and it made me think we are not that different. So why risk it and get hired by someone who didn't even know what they are hiring you for when you can get hired by someone who has a budget and a specific project for you? And here's the best part - you actually get to choose your next client 😉

𝟷. A freelancer has broader experience. They work with different industries and are exposed to different kinds of events, from large conferences to SKOs, virtually and in person. They pick up all kinds of event marketing tactics and strategies and hone more skills.

𝟸. The hiring process is very fast and easy. It usually takes only 1-2 interviews to understand if the person fits your current needs. The freelancers have contract templates and know exactly what their responsibilities will be.

𝟹. Less $$ vs an FT employee. You hire people for a specific project and can negotiate the rate and needs. You only pay for what is required to be covered and executed. Work around your budget.

𝟺. Flexible hours. Freelancers are usually available at any time and work OT and weekends prior to events.
